Day Eight: 'Do they know it's Christmas?' by Martin Lindley

Do they know it’s Christmas?

Set against those cantabile streets,
In more hackneyed places people dwell.
Dress plastic trees with plastic bells.
While the leisure house songs celebrate,
Stacked cages lack, become bitter cells.
Dress plastic trees with plastic bells.

Who built this place,
Who?
Nevermind, an aged question now.

Watching flakes of snow free-fall in glee,
They can’t know gifts in settled bills.
I’m sorry, perfect snowflake,
Let my bad manners tell:
We dress plastic trees with plastic bells.
